Obituary of Elliott Schocken

Elliott F. Schocken 

 

MANCHESTER - Elliott F. Schocken age 74, died unexpectedly on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2017, at his home. 

There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be held privately for the family. 

Memorial donations may be made to Turner Schrader American Legion Post 34, 1513 Palmyra St., Shortsville, NY 14548. 

Elliott was born on Jan. 15, 1943, in Jamaica Queens, N.Y., and was the son of the late Richard and Doris Forbes Schocken. 

He was veteran of the U.S. Marines and served on the USS Intrepid. He was on the USMC detachment where he helped recover Astronaut Scott Carpenter. Elliott was also positioned in the Cuban blockade. 

After an honorable discharge from the Marines, he went into the police academy and was a New York State trooper working out of Troop E and Troop T and retired in 1992 after 23 years. 

He was a 50-year member of Turner Schrader American Legion Post 34. He was also a Free and Accepted Mason. Elliott was an avid golfer, and played softball in the Canandaigua and Manchester leagues until he was 40. He was an avid New York Yankees and New York Giants fan.

He is survived by his constant companion, Roxann Washburn of Manchester; two sons, Allen (Bonnie) Schocken of Boynton Beach, Fla., and  Michael Schocken of Lantana, Fla.; three grandchildren, Allen Jr., Jessica and Mason; sisters, Linda (Fred) Libby of Shortsville and Judi Schocken of Kilmarnack, Va.; brother, Louis (Amy) Schocken of Westleville, Ohio; four nieces; one nephew; uncle, Jerard Schocken of Miami, Fla.; Roxann’s children, Katrina (Shawn) O’Sullivan and George (Tammy) Washburn; and their children.

He was predeceased by his brother, Bruce Schocken.

Funeral arrangements have been made with Cheney Funeral Home, Phelps.
