Marjorie Jane Poormon

 

Geneva, NY- Marjorie Jane Poormon, 86, of Geneva, NY, passed away peacefully with her loving daughters at her side on Sunday, December 24, 2017, at Clifton Springs Hospital Hospice Care.

 

Friends and family are invited to a memorial service at the Yatesville Methodist Church, 1894 Yatesville Road, Penn Yan, NY, on Saturday, January 6 at 11:00 a.m, with Rev. Thomas A. Wunder officiating. Burial will be in Joslyn Cemetery, Oaks Corners, NY in the spring. Burial will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, you may consider donations to Ontario-Yates Hospice, 756 Pre-Emption Road, Geneva, NY 14456 or a charity of ones choice.

 

Marjorie was born January 29, 1931, in Waterloo, NY, to William and Hattie (Rouse) Edington. She spent her entire life in the Seneca-Ontario County area. She worked as the manager of the following businesses: Big N Food Service Café in Waterloo, Midge & Madge’s Diner in Flint, NY, and later the Food Concession at Hayes Auction Barn for over 40 years. She was known for her good home style cooking and homemade pies. Marjorie also had a flower and vegetable stand business for many years on Route 14A.

 

She enjoyed playing cards, fishing, gardening, bird watching, dancing to country music and her recent trips to Nashville and Branson. She got to stand on the Grand Ol Opry Stage.

 

She is survived by her three daughters: Kathy Poormon of Ovid, NY; Diane (John) Bodnar of Turin, NY; Nancy Kingston of Rochester, NY; sister Dorothy Archer and brother Larry Edington both of Geneva; 5 grandchildren: Carl W. Prosser of Ovid, NY; Kimberly (Jimmer) Stevers of Seneca Falls; Cindi (Keith) Tewksbury of Waterloo; Jennifer (Wally) Shumway; Bobby (Melanie) Kingston of Rochester; 16 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.

 

Marjorie was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Dina Shumway; sisters Ruth Porter, Madelene Roach; and brother, Clark Edington.
