Alan VerStraete

Alan G. VerStraete, age 71, passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at New York- Presbyterian Allen Hospital in New York City.

Friends are invited to call on Friday (March 13) from 4pm-6pm at the Cheney Funeral Home, 70 Main Street, Phelps NY.

In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorial contributions in memory of Alan be made to the Phelps Fire Department PO Box 81, Phelps NY 14532.

Alan was born on July 11, 1954 in Clifton Springs, New York, the son of the late Charles and Geraldine VerStraete. Alan spent several decades with the Phelps and Newark Fire Departments, having served as a volunteer fireman as well as an EMT. He was a member of several drum and bugle corps in the area. Alan enjoyed watching Football, always making sure to cheer on his favorite team, the San Francisco 49’ers. He was an avid fan of racing, both NASCAR or Dirt Car racing. Most important to Alan was spending time with his friends and family.
