Catherine Griffith

Catherine Ann Griffith, 82, of Burdett, passed away on April 3, 2023, at the Taylor Nursing Home with her daughters by her side.

Cathy was born on October 27, 1940 to Charlie and Peggy Sherwood in Geneva. She spent most of her life in Seneca County. She married young to Fred Taney who gave her three girls but then she met the love of her life, Ed "Ace" Griffith who also gave her a 'bonus' daughter.
Cathy made friends wherever she went, always chatting with strangers, especially the good looking male ones. After raising her daughters, she enjoyed casino trips, bingo with the girls, and checking out yard sales and flea markets with her daughter. Her quick wit and devilish grin always made her the life of the party.

Cathy was predeceased by her daughter, Peggy, both husbands, sister Betty Morrell, and brother-in-law Gary Griffith.
She is survived by her daughters, Lisa (Ron) Grandel of Virginia, Terry (Chico) Taney of Burdett, and her favorite bonus daughter, Debbie Griffith (Bill McNicholas) of Waterloo; brother-in-law, Richard Griffith of Trumansburg; son-in-law, John DeMinck of NC; Granddaughters: Priscilla Hurley of Nashville, Sabrina Hurley of Pennsylvania, Mellissa Galloway, Kelley Cring, Jessica DeRitter; six great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Fred & Harriett Taylor Health Center in Bath for the great care they gave her these last 7 months. And we would like to apologize to the male aides for any groping or inappropriate proposals they may have endured during her stay.

At her request, there will be no service. Instead, she preferred a celebration of her life at Terry's house at 3947 Willow St in Burdett. It will take place on Saturday, April 8 at 2pm. Come anytime, have a cocktail in her honor and share your favorite story (everyone has one). In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Schuyler County SPCA or the Burdett Fire Department.
