Elizabeth Rubery

–

Aiken, South Carolina

Elizabeth J. “Betty” Rubery, formerly of Oneida, New York, passed away peacefully on Tuesday (February 17) evening at an extended care facility in Aiken, South Carolina, at the age of 103.

Friends are invited to attend a funeral mass on Friday March 6, 2026 10am at St. Francis Church in Phelps with Father Anthony Amato officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery.

Betty was born on November 24, 1922, in Rochester, New York, the daughter of Stella Maloney and Dan Maloney. She spent her early years in Phelps, New York, where she married the love of her life, Joseph “Joe” Rubery, on September 28, 1939.

In 1958, Betty and Joe moved to Oneida, New York, where she made her home for more than six decades, remaining there until February 2023.
Betty embraced life with energy and determination. She enjoyed playing cards, golfing, and bowling—activities she continued well into her senior years. Summers were often spent at her beloved cottage on Cayuga Lake, where neighbors became lifelong friends and extended family. Those who knew Betty admired her tenacity and her can‑do attitude. Age was never a limitation for her; she greeted each day with purpose and a plan.

She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph “Joe” Rubery, and her son, Daniel Rubery. Betty is survived by her daughter and son‑in‑law, Sherry J. Buck and Harold Buck of Aiken, South Carolina; her son, Timothy P. Rubery of Latham, New York; and her son and daughter‑in‑law, Michael J. Rubery and Carlie Rubery of Southlake, Texas. She was a proud grandmother to ten grandchildren and a cherished great‑grandmother to fifteen great‑grandchildren.
