Stanley, New York

Gregory Michael Benedict age 61, died peacefully on Saturday October 17, 2026.

Friends are invited to attend a celebration of life on Sunday November 29, 2026 from 11am-1pm at Smokin’ Tails Distillery 3 Church Street Phelps, NY 14532.

It is requested that in lieu flowers please make memorial donations in memory of Greg to DAV 400 Fort Hill Road, Canandaigua, NY 14424.

Greg was born on October 9, 1965 in Clifton Springs, NY. He graduated from Midlakes High School Class of 1984. He was proud to be a veteran of the Navy and served on the USS Buchanan from 1985 until 1989. After his honorable discharge he became the Night Auditor for Stratton Mountain Ski Resort.

Greg lived his life shaped by his love for the outdoors, adventure and family. Vermont had a special place in his heart which allowed him to pursue all of his passions, rather it be skiing, biking or swimming. He lived in Vermont for over 30 years with his wife Barbie before moving back home in 2025.

He also had a love for Seneca Lake, where sailing and swimming brought him, happiness and allowed him to embrace the things he loved to do. He also treasured the time he spent at the family camp in Speculator, NY. Camp was a special place for the entire family to gather and make memories. And there was also the highly competitive games of UNO around the kitchen table and taking turns throughout the day or night on the infamous “swing”.

Greg loved music, especially classic rock. Some of his fondest memories were attending concerts with all of his friends. He was an avid sports fan. He didn’t have any particular favorite team, he just loved the “thrill of victory and the agony of defeat”.

He is survived by his parents Barbara and Ovid Randall
Sisters Sharon (Peter) Cheney of Stanley
Jennifer Benedict of GA
Brother Kevin (Becky) Benedict of OK
Niece Sierra Braden of Nashville, TN
Nephew Cory Braden of Houston, TX
