Obituary of Grace Vavra

Grace L. “Mia” Vavra 

CANANDAIGUA - Grace L. “Mia” Vavra, age 81, died unexpectedly on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018, at her home.

Friends may call on Tuesday, December 4, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Fuller Funeral Home, 190 Buffalo St., Canandaigua. A funeral Mass will  be celebrated by Fr. Peter Van Lieshout on Wednesday, December 5, at 10 a.m. at St. Dominic Church, 97 W. Main St., Shortsville. Burial will be in St. Rose Cemetery.

It is requested that memorial donations be made to St. Peter’s Parish, 12 Hibbard Ave., Clifton Springs, NY 14432.

Mia was born on Nov. 2, 1937, in Caroline, N.Y. and was the daughter of the late Morris and Lua Higgins Sweetland. She was a member of St. Peter’s Parish. 

Mia worked for Frontier Telephone for over 20 years and retired from there. She had worked for the last 10 years at Canandaigua Elementary School where she loved the kids and co-workers. 

She has so many friends. She touched the lives of everyone she met but her biggest pride and love was for her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Tony Vavra Sr. of Canandaigua; three sons, Tony (Cindy) Vavra Jr. of Clifton Springs, Tim (Brenda) Vavra of Waterloo and Tom (Melissa) Vavra of Shortsville; grandchildren, Tanya Fox, Steffanie (Nick) Newland and Elizabeth, Keith (Amanda), Kendra, Timothy, Natalie (Joe), Benjamin Vavra; great-granddaughter, Tiffany; sisters and brother, Kathleen (Rudy) Christopher, Ann Marie Zeddies, Clint Sweetland, Geri Walters and Mary (Peter Seznec) Sweetland; sister-in-law, Nellie (Paul) Adams; several nieces, nephews and extended family members; and beloved beagle, Nellie.   

Funeral arrangements have been made with tCheney Funeral Home, Phelps.
