Sharon was born on December 12, 1946 in Clifton Springs, NY, the daughter of the late Rueben
and Helen Carney. Sharon graduated from Clifton Springs High School in 1965. She was
married in 1967 to Sherman Brake of Victor, NY. In Sharon’s younger years, she enjoyed going
bowling and playing bingo and cards. She also enjoyed going fishing and camping at the lake in
Canada. As an adult raising two children, Sharon went back to school to become an LPN,
following in her mother’s footsteps. She graduated from Wayne Finger Lakes BOCES in 1987.
Her overwhelming love for her patients was only second to the love she had for her family. Her
lifelong career with Clifton Springs Hospital started at age 15 as a candy striper at the original
Sanitarium. Her career ended upon her retirement from the CSHC nursing home as charge
nurse of her floor. Sharon also enjoyed crocheting and knitting, special moments she shared
with all of her friends, and an occasional casino visit in her later years. She mostly cherished
the love and laughter she shared with Alyssa and Mason as their “NaNa”.
