
Obituary of Ellen R. Champion
EAST SYRACUSE/PHELPS - Ellen Mae Champion, 96 of Erie Village, East Syracuse, N.Y. passed away peacefully on Wednesday (August 18, 2021).
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday (September 25) at Trinity Episcopal Church (services will also be available via Zoom). Burial will follow for family only in Phelps, N.Y.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, Fayetteville, N.Y.
Ellen was born on September 21, 1924, the daughter of George and Edith Ruthven of Phelps, N.Y. She was a graduate of Phelps CHS and attended Rochester Business Institute.
Ellen married the love of her life, Dick Champion, on March 30, 1946. In 1958 Dick and Ellen moved to Syracuse, N.Y. Ellen raised her children until returning to work as a dental assistant and retired 25 years later. She always said that she loved her job and looked forward to her work everyday. Ellen was an avid bridge player, shopper, and loved spending time with her family. She loved spending winters with family and friends in New Smyrna Beach, Fla., and summers at their home on Kasoag Lake, N.Y. Over the past few years, she enjoyed spending winters with her daughters in Venice, Fla. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Fayetteville, N.Y. for 61 years.
Ellen is survived by her three daughters Susan Champion of Venice, Fla., Mary Jo Champion (Art Mack) of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Leslie Cobb of North Syracuse, N.Y.; her grandchildren Michelle (Eric) Krupka of North Syracuse, Lucas Sullivan of Tucson, Ariz., Matthew (Anya) Cobb of Sackets Harbor, Sarah Cobb (Donnie Mannise) of Dallas, Texas; great-grandchildren Addison and Aiden Krupka; beloved cousin, Christine (Tom) Vienna; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
