Obituary of Mildred F. Parmelee

Mildred F. Parmelee Mildred Fairman Parmelee at age of 105 passed away on January 13, 2022. Mildred was born in Phelps, NY on March 1, 1916, the daughter of Edward and Jennie May Fairman. Mildred graduated from Phelps Union and Classical School in 1933. She attended Syracuse University. She married John M. Parmelee on July 6, 1939 in the Phelps Methodist Church. She was a homemaker until they moved to Liverpool in 1951, when she substitute taught Physical Education in the Liverpool School District. She is survived by son John S. Parmelee and wife Judith of Centre Hall, PA and a sister Marjorie (Tom) Stallman of Fort Belvoir, VA. She had two predeceased daughters Virginia T. Parmelee of Liverpool, NY and Kathryn (Charles) Leitch of Johnstown, NY. Mildred had six grandchildren (Lisa Miraldi, Deborah Webb, Mark Parmelee, Carrie Blanchard, Nicole Leitch, and Jonathan Leitch) and eight great-grandchildren (Ethan Webb, Emma Webb, Dylan Miraldi, Blake Miraldi, Brayden Blanchard, Connor Blanchard, Jon Leitch and Brynlee Leitch). Mildred loved to entertain, bake cookies, and make pies for the Sauerkraut Festival and various Church functions. She was very active in Church activities and leadership as an Elder. She played piano and violin. She was a member of several bridge clubs, PEO, and Tuesday Club. She loved sports and participated in swimming, tennis, volleyball, softball, and basketball. She continued to walk and swim into her 90’s. She loved to read. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to The United Church of Phelps, The Phelps Library or The Phelps Community Historical Society. Services will be held in late Spring or early summer.
